Bill McCamley moved to Las Cruces in 1992 after his father retired from the U.S. Army. After graduating from Mayfield High School in 1996, he went on to New Mexico State University, where he earned an honors degree in government with minors in history and biology. During his time there, he served as president of the Associated Students of New Mexico State University. He then went on to attain his master's degree in public policy from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.
Bill's priorities for Doņa Ana County consist of creating jobs through border development and X-Prize/Spaceport opportunities, making health care more accessible to county residents, promoting growth in a positive, responsible manner, and caring for valuable water resources. He believes strongly in implementing public policy in cooperation with cities, the State of New Mexico, and the federal government.
Bill's other job is as the executive director of the New Mexico Rural Development Response Council, a non-profit entity that helps small New Mexico communities create jobs. He has also recently been employed as a government instructor at Doņa Ana Branch Community College. Other interests include playing hockey and soccer in local leagues, reading, participating in the Mesilla Valley Kiwanis and La Mesa Lion's clubs, and traveling.
District 5 encompasses central Las Cruces.
