DETENTION CENTER ATTACK REMAINS UNDER INVESTIGATION; LOCKDOWN LIFTED
The Doña Ana County Detention Center has been placed on lockdown following an attack by an inmate on a detention officer. A full investigation is underway. (NOTE: The lockdown was lifted at approximately 2 p.m. Dec. 4, 2007.)

ADDINGTON ROAD CLOSURE ANNOUNCED
Beginning Tuesday, Dec. 4, construction crews will close Addington Road between N.M. 478 and N.M. 28 to replace a collapsed culvert. The closure is expected to be in effect until 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, 2007. read more...

EXTRA-TERRITORIAL ZONING AUTHORITY INCREASES APPLICATION FEES
The Doña Ana County/City of Las Cruces Extra-Territorial Zoning Authority has increased application fees for variances, special-use permits, zone changes and appeals. In addition to the new fees, all applicants must still pay postage to notify all property owners within 350 feet of the site to which the application pertains.

TREASURER EXTENDS OFFICE HOURS ON LAST DAY TO PAY PENALTY-FREE TAXES
Doña Ana County Treasurer Jim Schoonover has announced extended operating hours – 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. – on Monday, Dec. 10, 2007, to allow Doña Ana County property owners ample time to pay property taxes on the last day of the year before interest and penalties are applied to outstanding balances.

COUNTY EMPLOYEES DONATE $5,000 IN NEW TOYS TO NEEDY CHILDREN

COUNTY OFFICES, SOLID-WASTE TRANSFER STATIONS ANNOUNCE HOLIDAY SCHEDULE
Most Dona Ana County offices will be closed Thursday and Friday, Nov. 22-23, 2007, to allow employees to observe the Thanksgiving holiday. Emergency services and law enforcement in the field will not be affected, but the administrative offices of the Doña Ana County Sheriff's Department will be closed.

PUBLIC MEETING SLATED TO DISCUSS CHAPARRAL DRAINAGE MASTER PLAN
The Doña Ana County Flood Commission will hold a public meeting in Chaparral at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2007, to discuss problem flooding areas and sources, and to identify potential solutions for inclusion in the proposed Chaparral Drainage Master Plan. The meeting will be held at Chaparral High School, 800 County Line Road.
