UPDATES: SANTA TERESA HAZMAT INCIDENT

Oct. 31, 2012, 6 a.m. As of 9:49 p.m. on Oct. 30, the Doña Ana County Industrial Park was reopened for business and the Doña Ana County Airport at Santa Teresa reopened to air traffic and personnel. Hazmat testing at the scene yielded no results. An investigation by the Doña Ana County Fire and Emergency Services Department and the New Mexico State Police remains underway to determine what made people ill at the industrial park on Oct. 30.

Santa Teresa High School is being used as a shelter for evacuees in southern Doña Ana County, where a hazardous-materials incident is developing. Air-quality testing is underway to determine what is making people sick in the area.

ELLINS: CALLS WERE MISLEADING; EARLY VOTING CONTINUES

Doña Ana County Clerk Lynn Ellins has issued a statement regarding misleading calls reported by many Doña Ana County residents on Saturday, Oct. 27. The calls indicated that early voting in Doña Ana County had ended. Ellins said early voting continues at seven sites in Doña Ana County through Saturday, Nov. 3, in advance of the Nov. 6 General Elections.

PET-ADOPTION EVENTS SLATED ON SATURDAY, OCT. 26

The Animal Services Center of the Mesilla Valley will facilitate dog, cat, puppy and kitten adoptions this Saturday, Oct. 26. In addition to adoptions from the shelter site, adoptions also will take place at multiple off-site pet adoption events.
