The Doña Ana County Bureau of Elections has been receiving calls and complaints regarding misleading voter-registration activities in some Doña Ana County communities.
Elections Supervisor Lynn Ellins said the most disturbing complaint is from people who are being told they must re-register to vote under a new law passed by the Legislature.
/'/This is simply not true,/'/ Ellins said. /'/Any voter who is registered and in good standing has no obligation to re-register. Our office is happy to answer any questions./'/
Ellins said many groups are legally entitled to conduct voter-registration drives, but they are not supervised or trained by the Doña Ana County Bureau of Elections staff, and they may or may not be disseminating accurate information.
/'/We encourage people who are suspicious about anything they’re told to contact our office at (575) 647-7428,/'/ Ellins said. /'/Ideally, people who wish to register would do so here at the Doña Ana County Government Center or at their respective political-party headquarters, where accurate information is available./'/
