Training Statement

Each year, the Doņa Ana County Sheriff's Department’s Special Response team hosts a basic SRT school titled, "SWAT/SRT: Structure, Tactics and Training." The school is accredited through the New Mexico Department of Public Safety for 50 hours of advanced-level training and is open to tactical law enforcement operators and military police and/or special operations personnel.

Topics include: Intelligence-gathering techniques, operations planning, breaching techniques, use of body bunker, chemical munitions, light/sound diversionary devices, impact munitions, shoot house, SWAT/K9 operations, shooting exercises and tactical shooting, building-clearing exercises, and vehicle/bus assaults.

DASO-SRT also hosts a NMDPS-accredited 50-hour Advanced SWAT/SRT School. Topics covered in the Advanced School include: Hostage rescue, vehicle assaults, and multiple live-fire exercises.

Thus far, personnel from the following agencies have attended the DASO SRT Schools:

The next Basic SWAT/SRT class is scheduled Spring/Summer 2008 and all regional tactical law enforcement or military organizations are encouraged to attend. The class will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis, and the class size will be limited.
