ANNOUNCEMENT: NMC 2021 Officer Election – Doña Ana County

On April 16, 2021, the New Mexico Counties notified the Doña Ana County Clerk’s Office of the need hold an election to select the 2021-2023 board of director representative for Doña Ana County.
Pursuant to the NMC bylaws, the Doña Ana County Clerk is responsible for conducting the election. All five County Commissioners, the County Clerk, County Assessor, County Treasurer, County Sheriff and Probate Judge, holding office in 2021, are eligible for election to membership on New Mexico Counties’ board and may vote in the election.
The timeline for this year’s election was amended by the NMC Board of Directors to coincide with the June Board of Director’s meeting. Therefore, county elected officials must elect one elected official to represent the county by Friday, May 3rd.
Important Dates/Timeline:

  • Candidates shall notify the Chief Deputy Clerk of their candidacy in writing no later than Friday, April 23rd, by emailing
  • The Doña Ana County election will take place on April 27th. Elected officials may cast a ballot in person at the clerk’s office between the hours of 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.
    • Election information and results will be available online at
    • The BOE Supervisor, Chief Deputy Clerk, and Staff Coordinator will canvass the election on April 28th at 9:00 am in multi-purpose rooms 111 and 113 of the DAC Government Center. This meeting is open to the public.
  • The county clerk will notify NMC Executive Director Steve Kopelman of the newly elected representative in writing by Monday, May 3rd (45 days prior to the June Board of Directors meeting).
  • The newly elected representative shall serve a two-year term beginning at the adjournment of the 2021 NMC June Board of Directors meeting until the adjournment of the 2023 NMC June Annual Conference.
