FREE BATTERIES WILL BE DISTRIBUTED AT DST EVENTS

     Daylight Saving Time will end at 2 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 4, and the Doña Ana County Fire and Emergency Services Department wants all Doña Ana County residents to replace their smoke-alarm batteries at the same time they reset their household clocks.
     To make it easier than ever, volunteers and fire staff from Doña Ana County and other jurisdictions will be deployed today at various locations throughout the county to give away brand new Duracell 9-volt batteries. The limit is nine per household.
     The batteries were obtained this summer through a Keep America Beautiful grant.
     Two 4x4-foot pallets of 18,400 batteries each were delivered to the Doña Ana County Fire and Emergency Services Department, and one pallet was subsequently transferred to the Las Cruces Fire Department.
     The retail value of the two pallets is approximately $76,500, and the batteries have best-by dates of 2022.
     Distribution will occur from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2, at the following locations:
     * The Rotunda of the Doña Ana County Government Center
     * Stires Super Market in Chaparral
     * Doña Ana Village Fire Station
     * Town of Mesilla Fire Station
     * Anthony City Hall
     * Village of Hatch Administrative Complex
     * Both fire stations in the City of Sunland Park
     * Las Cruces Fire Station 1 at 201 E. Picacho Blvd.
