MOBILE HOME ‘A TOTAL LOSS’ FOLLOWING FIRE IN LA UNION

Crews with Doña Ana County’s South Fire District, with assistance from El Paso County and Sunland Park, responded to a fire Tuesday that reportedly destroyed a mobile home in La Union.
The fire was first reported at 10:55 a.m. in the 200 block of Fig Tree Lane. Doña Ana County Fire Chief Nick Hempel said the homeowner reported that her grill might have caught the house on fire, but the official cause of the incident is under investigation.
The house had partially collapsed when crews arrived, making efforts to contain the fire difficult. Hempel said the home is believed to be a total loss.
A total of 19 Doña Ana County firefighters responded to the incident, 14 of which are volunteers.
There were no serious injuries reported. One Sunland Park firefighter was taken to an area hospital, reportedly for exhaustion.
