PETERS NAMED DETENTION CENTER DIRECTOR FOR DOÑA ANA COUNTY

            Doña Ana County Manager Fernando R. Macias announced the appointment of Daniel Peters as Director of the Doña Ana County Detention Center.
            In this role, Peters will be in charge of the entire detention center facility. He brings broad experience in public service and as an independent consultant to private prison corporations.  Doña Ana County Detention Center Director Daniel Peters
Most recently, Peters was warden at the Southern New Mexico Correctional Facility for the New Mexico Corrections Department in Las Cruces.
     As deputy warden for the Otero County Prison Facility, he was responsible for all operational matters pertaining to security, risk management and policies.  He also served as deputy director of the Juvenile Justice Services for the New Mexico Children, Youth & Families Department in Santa Fe.
     He was also a correctional officer with the Federal Bureau of Prisons, and took on several roles of increasing responsibility in a variety of locations around the country.    His last position with the bureau was as a field administrator, where he was directly responsible for the daily oversight and operation of up to 15,000 inmates in 10 institutions.  
     After retiring from the Bureau of Prisons, he accepted a mission with the U.S. State Department serving overseas as a senior advisor, mentoring foreign officials on western correctional concepts and prison administration. 
     Early in his career, Peters served as deputy sheriff for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and later, as assistant warden for the Community Education Centers in New Jersey. Peters began his career in law enforcement and corrections while serving in the United States Air Force.
