COUNTY CLERK’S OFFICE TO HOST CELEBRATION OF DEMOCRACY
The Doña Ana County Clerk's Office in partnership with the Election Advisory Council will host more than 200 students at its 3rd Annual Celebrating Democracy in Doña Ana County event.
During the event students will have the opportunity to learn about the cornerstones of our democratic process through games and informal discussions with candidates and public officials. Eligible students will also have the opportunity to register and with Same Day Registration, will also have the option to cast their ballot.

The Doña Ana County Clerk’s Office is excited to once again, collaborate with our community on this important event.  “When communities come together to celebrate democracy, the result is a community aware, engaged and confident in the electoral process. This event provides an opportunity for young people to gain an up close look at the functions and faces of government in a fun and friendly atmosphere,” said Amanda López Askin, Doña Ana County Clerk.

The event will take place almost exclusively on the North Lawn adjacent to the Doña Ana County Government Center on Motel Boulevard in Las Cruces, with small groups of students participating in guided tours of the building. Luchador and the Green Chile Paddy Wagon will also be on-site for the duration of the event.

“We know that an informed community is an engaged community. Celebrating Democracy in Doña Ana County provides an opportunity to engage, educate and inform young people about the role of local government and the role of local government officials. By doing so, we are truly celebrating democracy,” said Lindsey Bachman, Chief Deputy Clerk.

Volunteers and organizations came together to bring this event to young people in our community. Among others, this event would not be possible without the efforts of the Election Advisory Council, Las Cruces Public Schools, and the League of Women Voters of Greater Las Cruces. Through collaboration with community partners, Celebrating Democracy in Doña Ana County, will continue to serve as a venue for civic engagement each year.
