  •              The Doña Ana County Community and Constituent Services (CCS) Office has scheduled a Mobile Constituent Services Hour Clinic in Garfield to help residents who need assistance from local, state and federal government agencies.

                The Garfield Mobile Constituent Services Outreach Clinic will be held from 5-6 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 17, at the Garfield Fire Station, 8920 Highway 187.

                District 5 Doña Ana County Commissioner John Vasquez and staff from U.S. Sen. Martin Heinrich’s Las Cruces District Office have been invited to attend.

         The New Mexico Association of Counties has informed Doña Ana County that it has been selected to receive the FY 2016 Audit Accountability Award for large counties.

         Each year NMAC and the state auditor select counties that prove their dedication to ethical financial practices that safeguard their public assets.

         The winners of the FY 2016 Audit Accountability Awards will be recognized at the NMAC Legislative Conference Closing Luncheon at noon Thursday, Jan. 18, at the Santa Fe Community Convention Center.

         Due to Colonias Day and Las Cruces Days in Santa Fe, in conjunction with the 2018 New Mexico Legislature, the second regular monthly meeting of the Doña Ana County Board of Commissioners has been moved to 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 25, in the Commission Chambers of the Doña Ana County Government Center.

         Commission meetings are normally held on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month at 9 a.m., but Doña Ana County Manager Fernando R. Macias recommended changing this meeting date and time to accommodate travel and commitments in Santa Fe.

                Doña Ana County Clerk Scott Krahling has appointed Rose Ann Vasquez to replace Lynn Ellins as Chief Deputy County Clerk.

                The announcement comes as Ellins, a former two term County Clerk and Bureau of Elections Supervisor, retires. The change takes effect Monday, Jan. 22.

                “I am grateful for Lynn’s mentorship and excited for the future with Rose Ann’s partnership,” Krahling said.

                At the behest of Doña Ana County Commission Chairwoman Isabella Solis, Doña Ana County launched its Freshman of the Month program in late August of 2017. For the first time since the program launched, the county has received no new nominations.

                Three students from the Gadsden Independent School District were honored in October, November and December of 2017. They were Janet Mendoza of Alta Vista Early College High School, Nathan Speelman of Santa Teresa High School and Stephanie Cano of Gadsden High School, respectively.

  •             Most Dona Ana County offices will be closed Monday, Jan. 15, 2018, to allow employees to observe the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., holiday. Emergency services and law enforcement in the field will not be affected, but the administrative offices of the Doña Ana County Sheriff's Department will be closed. Saturation patrols and DWI checkpoints will be conducted in the field.

                 Doña Ana County District 5 Commissioner John Vasquez will co-host the second annual ‘A Day to Change Direction’ on Oct. 28 to promote dialogue on mental health, emotional suffering and access to care for area veterans, their families and friends.

                The event is coordinated by the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States (VFW) and the Give an Hour (GAH) foundation. ‘A Day to Change Direction’ is also being observed nationally through other VFW posts across the country.

                    The Doña Ana County Sheriff’s Department is encouraging residents to use a new online cataloging system that could help expedite the return of valuables to victims in the event of a burglary.

                ReportIt is a free property-inventory system available to anyone in Doña Ana County. The system is part of LEADS online, a network that the sheriff’s office uses to track inventory at local pawn shops to ensure items have not been previously reported as stolen.
