  •            Doña Ana County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a 24-year-old Las Cruces man for reckless driving after witnessing the man traveling at speeds over 100 miles per hour.

                Aaron Morales, of the 1800 block of New Mexico Avenue, was taken into custody just after 8 p.m. Tuesday.


                Doña Ana County Clerk Lynn Ellins has announced the resignation of Chief Deputy Clerk Mario O. Jimenez III, effective Friday, Sept. 26.

                “Mario has done a terrific job for me and for the voters of Doña Ana County during his tenure,” Ellins said. “He is leaving for personal reasons, and while my staff and I are sorry to see him go, we support his decision and wish the very best for him going forward.”

                Jimenez informed the office staff of his decision at a 5 p.m. meeting on Monday, Sept. 22.

  •  Doña Ana County and the City of Las Cruces will host a public meeting on Monday, October 6 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the City of Las Cruces City Hall, Room 2007 at 700 North Main Street. The purpose of the meeting is to share information and gather input on recommended compatibility strategies from the ongoing Joint Land Use Study (JLUS) for Doña Ana, Lincoln, Otero, Sierra, and Socorro Counties in New Mexico and El Paso County in Texas, and the military installations of Fort Bliss, Holloman Air Force Base, and White Sands Missile Range.

  •   Doña Ana County District 3 Commissioner Benjamin Rawson, along with several Doña Ana County staff members, will host a public meeting to discuss proposed roadway improvements along Baylor Canyon Road and Dripping Springs Road.

     Representatives with the Bureau of Land Management will also be at the meeting to provide preliminary information on the project, and to answer questions from the public.

    The meeting will take place Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2014 from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Organ Fire Station, 5816 Third Street in Organ.

  • Animal Services Center of the Mesilla Valley staff and volunteers will facilitate dog, cat, puppy and kitten adoptions this Saturday, Oct. 4. In addition to adoptions from the shelter site, adoptions also will take place at two off-site pet adoption events.  

  • Doña Ana County Sheriff’s investigators say they have seen a growing trend in the number of reported burglaries since July in certain Doña Ana County communities, and are warning residents to take precautions that could prevent them from becoming a victim of a crime.

    According to the reports, the number of burglaries has nearly tripled in Districts 2 and 4, compared to other districts patrolled by the Doña Ana County Sheriff’s Office.

  •             The Doña Ana County Clerk’s Office is reminding residents of some important deadlines to remember prior to the November 4, 2014 general election.

                Anyone who is not currently registered to vote and would like to vote in the November election has until 5 p.m. on Oct. 7 to get registered. State law requires that voter registration books be closed by the 28th day prior to the election.


                District 1 Doña Ana County Commissioner Billy G. Garrett will host a public meeting regarding the Organ Mountains-Desert Peaks National Monument on Thursday, Oct. 9, from 6-7:30 p.m. in the Commission Chambers of the Doña Ana County Government Center.
