                A portion of Doña Ana Road north of Las Cruces will be closed for most of today while crews work to pump out flood waters. The closure will affect the area near the intersection of Doña Ana Road and Lujan Hill Road.
                A second closure is on La Reina Road between Sunland Avenue and Calle Las Lomas, also for the purpose of floodwater pumping and debris removal.

  •             Doña Ana County residents with unused, expired or unwanted prescription medications are encouraged to participate in the annual drug take-back program on Oct. 27, sponsored in part by the Doña Ana County Sheriff’s Department, the Drug Enforcement Administration and other local law-enforcement agencies.

                Doña Ana County has filed suit against the nation’s largest pharmaceutical manufacturers and distributors for their role in creating a widespread diversion of prescription opiates for nonmedical purposes. 
                The case was filed Oct. 15 in federal district court in the District of New Mexico (Doña Ana County Board of Commissioners v. AmerisourceBergen Drug Corporation et al Court: New Mexico District Court Case Num: 1:18-cv-00959).

  •             The Doña Ana County Sheriff’s Department is hoping to win the popular vote in an online contest that could earn the agency one of eight K9 grants.
                The Aftermath K9 Grant was established to reward the unique contributions made by K9 divisions across the country. The month-long contest will award $16,500 in grants to new or established K9 programs for maintenance, safety equipment, or officer training.

                Doña Ana County Animal Control and Codes Enforcement, along with Planning and Constituent Services personnel will be going door-to-door in the Salem community on Thursday, Oct. 25 to offer education on domestic animal ordinances, recycling, trash accumulation, inoperable vehicles, weed control and other potential environmental and zoning codes violations.

                The Doña Ana County Flood Commission will host a public meeting for the Cattleland Estates/Moongate Colonias area to discuss potential drainage & flooding improvements in the Longhorn Road area. The purpose of this meeting will be to present potential project recommendations and we are requesting public input from area residents.

  • Officials with the Doña Ana County Sheriff’s Department are urging parents and caregivers to learn more about where registered sex offenders live before taking children trick-or-treating this Halloween.
       Offender Watch, a free, online mapping service has been available to Doña Ana County residents since 2008. Anyone can access the service via the Doña Ana County Sheriff’s Department website, www.goDASO.org.

  •             The Hatch Mobile Constituent Services Outreach Clinic will be held from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, at the Village of Hatch Community Center, 837 Highway 187 in Hatch.
                District 5 Doña Ana County Commissioner Kim Hakes will be participating. Local staff from the congressional delegation offices have also been invited to attend.

  • The Doña Ana County Sheriff’s Department will auction off more than 40 vehicles to the highest bidders on Saturday, Oct. 13.
     The vehicles range from a 1982 GMC pickup to a 2011 Honda four-door, and were previously owned by convicted repeat DWI offenders. New Mexico law allows for the forfeiture of vehicles driven by people whose licenses have been revoked for driving under the influence.
