                Elephant Butte Irrigation District officials have informed Doña Ana County that the Mesilla Dam river crossing will be closed intermittently from Jan. 21-31, impacting residents who frequently use County Road B-06.
                When closures are in effect, traffic will be diverted from the east river levee road to N.M. 28. Motorists are advised to slow down and to expect delays in the work area. Motorists also are reminded to exercise caution in all areas where workers are deployed.

                Most Dona Ana County offices will be closed Monday, Jan. 21, 2019, to allow employees to observe the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., holiday. Emergency services and law enforcement in the field will not be affected, but the administrative offices of the Doña Ana County Sheriff's Department will be closed. Saturation patrols and DWI checkpoints will be conducted in the field.

  •             The Doña Ana County Sheriff’s Department has scheduled several traffic projects and two anti-DWI saturation patrols during the month of January. These activities are part of an ongoing effort to increase safety on the road and reduce DWI-related crashes, injuries and deaths.
                Traffic projects address areas in Doña Ana County where speeding or other violations have been reported. There are five traffic projects scheduled in January.

    A portion of Golden Eagle Road in Chaparral is closed for sewer-line installation construction until late April of this year.
                The section between East Lisa Drive and Wicker Road will be open to residential traffic only while the construction is underway.
                Traffic will be detoured and warning signs will be prominently posted. Motorists are advised to slow down and to expect delays in the construction area. Motorists also are reminded to exercise caution in all areas where workers are deployed.

         The Doña Ana County Flood Commission will host a public meeting in advance of a planned drainage master plan for the Vado and Del Cerro colonias.
         Residents will be invited to comment on the plan and the areas of biggest need.
         The meeting will be held Wednesday, Jan. 23, from 6-7 p.m. at the Vado Del Cerro Community Center.

         Fifteen new firefighters will be sworn in Friday after having successfully completed the 22nd Doña Ana County Fire and Emergency Services Firefighter Academy. 
    The academy consists of 88 hours of classroom instruction and skills practice over the course of 10 consecutive weekends. Topics of instruction include fire safety, fire behavior, building construction, fire extinguishers, forcible entry, fire streams, proper use of gear and equipment, and ropes.

  •             Deputies and civilian staff at the Doña Ana County Sheriff’s Department are mourning the death of retired Las Cruces Police Chief Jaime Montoya.

                The Las Cruces Police Department confirmed late Thursday that Montoya had passed away after battling cancer.

                Many law enforcement personnel at DASO knew Montoya well, and many had worked with him over his decades-long career.

                A portion of Rutledge Road north of Las Cruces will be closed Tuesday, Jan. 8, while crews work to replace a collapsed culvert.
                Traffic will be detoured to Browning and Railroad roads while the construction is underway.
                Warning signs will be prominently posted. Motorists are advised to slow down and to expect delays in the construction area. Motorists also are reminded to exercise caution in all areas where workers are deployed.

                Elected officials representing Doña Ana County will be sworn in Friday, Dec. 28, at 10 a.m. in the Commission Chambers of the Doña Ana County Government Center.
                Doña Ana County Commission Vice-Chair Isabella Solis will make opening remarks following the presentation of the colors by the Doña Ana County Sheriff's Department Color Guard.
                The ceremony will be streamed live on the Doña Ana County website.
