MORE TIME NEEDED: BRIDGE WORK TO CLOSE A SECTION OF FRANCO ROAD

Work to replace the bridge beam and deck on Franco Road over the Elephant Butte Irrigation District’s canal will take an estimated five weeks to complete instead of the one week originally estimated.

“We found additional issues that need to be addressed at the site that will take much longer to address than we initially contemplated,” Doña Ana County Roads Superintendent Omar Soto said today.

The road closure began Wednesday, Nov. 8. Weather permitting, the project is now scheduled for completion in mid-December.

Detour signs have been installed, and traffic is being routed through Mustang and Lechuga roads.

Motorists are advised to slow down and to expect delays in the construction area. Motorists also are reminded to exercise caution in all areas where workers are deployed.
