LAS CRUCES, NM – Today, May 28, marks the deadline for eligible voters to request an absentee ballot for the 2020 Primary Election, and as of 9:00 a.m., the Doña Ana County Clerk’s Office had already processed more than 15,000 absentee ballot applications and received 6,094 completed absentee ballots.

“Across the state, clerks’ offices, the vendors that support them and the regional USPS system are being stretched in ways that they may have never been before in light of the challenges of providing in person and absentee voting options for voters during a global pandemic,” said Chief Deputy Clerk Lindsey Bachman. “Still, we want to ensure that eligible voters have all the information they need to cast a ballot in this election.”

Any eligible voter may vote at any one of the county’s voter convenience centers. The office encourages in-person voting for voters who have not received a requested absentee ballot and who do not believe they will receive it in the next couple of days. It also reminds absentee voters that the voter, a voter’s caregiver or the voter’s immediate family member can return an absentee ballot in person at any voting location during Early Voting and on Election Day.

Absentee ballot and application statuses can be tracked online at NMVote.org.

Any voter who is still waiting on an a requested absentee ballot who cannot physically leave their residence due to illness and therefore cannot make it to polling location to vote in person should call the clerk’s office at (575) 647-7428.
