DETENTION CENTER GRADUATION GOES VIRTUAL

DETENTION CENTER GRADUATION GOES VIRTUAL

The Doña Ana County Detention Center leaders will host a virtual swearing-in ceremony at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 6, for six cadets, via our Facebook page, at  www.facebook.com/DonaAnaCounty.

Because of the pandemic and current gathering restrictions, a full ceremony with speakers and loved ones attending in person is not possible.  Instead, cadets will be sworn in for service at the Detention Center.  A full ceremony will be scheduled for everyone who graduated during the pandemic, at a later date.

Detention officer cadets successfully completed a 10-week-long training.  Classes were conducted virtually for theoretical material and in person for hands-on techniques, as part of the Basic Detention Officers’ Academy.

Training includes a thorough review of current policies, procedures and software currently used at the Doña Ana County Detention Center. Before they participate in on-the-job training, while shadowing a senior officer, cadets learn about searches, first aid, booking, transportation and other procedures.

Doña Ana County Magistrate Judge Rebecca Duffin will administer the oaths of service.

Families and friends of the swearing-in participants are encouraged to join the virtual ceremony and it is open to the public.  To view the ceremony, please join us on the County’s Facebook page.  If you would like to view it later, please visit our YouTube channel at www.youtube.com/c/DoñaAnaCountyGovernment.

Swearing-in ceremony participants are Luis Avina; Luis Borrego; Cesar Lazcano; Santiago Ozante III; William Zimmerman; and Daunte Trujillo.
