FOOD DISTRIBUTION OFFERED TO LA UNION RESIDENTS FOLLOWING THE FLOOD EVENT

On Thursday, Doña Ana County partnered with Casa de Peregrinos to schedule a special food distribution drive-thru event in the La Union community. “We recognized that while the flood event is over, helping the residents recover will be ongoing,” said Director of HHS Jamie Michael. “Casa de Peregrinos is a great partner, recognizing the needs of the community and the urgency, they quickly responded and scheduled this special event. Home Depot has been here throughout the flood event activities, providing cleaning supplies. This is what community partnership looks like.”

Since the beginning of the flood event, promotoras from the County’s Health and Human Services department have been on the ground, interacting with the residents in the community hardest hit by the recent flood event, surveilling what the needs are. While engaging the La Union community, the County partnered with active community leaders to identify the best way to serve following the disaster. It was determined that one of the County’s Food Distribution offerings would be beneficial to those who need assistance.

The word quickly spread about the food distribution resulting in the distribution of 81 boxes of fresh produce, canned goods, a protein source, along with 81 cases of water. 50 buckets of cleaning supplies were also donated by Home Depot.
